Wild Rumpus is, first and foremost, a bookstore for children and young adults. We will always maintain a space for kids that is welcoming, safe, nurturing, and inclusive. We believe that there is no space for hate, prejudice, or bigotry in literary communities and that today’s young readers will be the people shaping our world for the better, now and in the future. When you are visiting our store, we expect you and yours to honor our values, to be respectful to our human and animal staff, and to be mindful of others in the store.
Additionally, Wild Rumpus aims to encourage literacy and continued education for all readers who visit us. Our staff is full of expert booksellers (not algorithms) who strive to put the perfect book in the hands of every customer. We believe books can be an escape from reality but also windows into lives that are different from our own. Books are fun, relaxing, exciting, harsh, emotional, fluffy, serious, goofy, educational, and beautiful.
As an independent bookstore, we are focused on our readers and local community. As a queer and women/non-binary-owned store, we pride ourselves on keeping a highly-curated collection of inclusive books on our shelves. We take part in community events, donate to various local causes, and offer a variety of programming to bring people into community with one another. We are all lifelong learners and regardless of who you are, we know you can find a book that reflects your life and the world we live in together.
